Kingsbridge Food Bank has 15 days to find a new home

Kingsbridge Food Bank have 15 days to find a new home or they will have to start reducing the support they give to the community.

The trustees of KFB met on Tuesday afternoon to discuss the situation and made the difficult decision to say that if space could not be found to house them, they would have to reduce the number of people they supported and cutting back on the amount of food and products they stock.

Currently the food bank is supporting 55 families, 27 couples and 33 singles every week. This number has fallen slightly as people are able to go back to work, but it is still a large number of people for such a small area.

Formerly based at the Horizons building at the top of Fore Street, the food bank grew out of that space with a 500 per cent increase in demand for their services.

Since then they have moved to the Scout Hut on Derby Road but with the Scouts and other groups that meet there being able to re-start from September, they need to find a new location by 29th of August.

We need someone to offer us a bigger space for a few months or a permanent home

"We need someone to offer us a bigger space for a few months or a permanent home", said Gerrie Messer, Kingsbridge Food Bank, "We're applying to funding like its going out of fashion!"

The team need enough space for nice fridges and freezers, enough space for them to set up their 'supermarket' on their drop-in days, a bit of desk space and a kitchen.

If you think you might be able to help this local charity that does so much for the community, you can contact them on 07759 683567 or get in touch with them through their Facebook page.

If you don't have any space for them to use but would still like to help support the food bank, there are donation bins for food in Tesco and Morrisons in Kingsbridge. They're also on the look out for egg boxes if you have any going spare.

If you would like to donate monetarily, you can use the Kingsbridge Food Bank account at Lloyds Bank, Kingsbridge. Sort Code: 77-09-24, Account Number: 17928860.
