The Slapton Ley Field Centre will host the ten, two-hour sessions, run by a tutor, which will aim to reconnect participants with nature in our very own Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in order to boost wellbeing.

A spokesperson for Slapton Ley Field Centre said: "These sessions will involve a variety of activities carried out on the nature reserve aimed at increasing your connection to nature, providing gentle exercise and aiding the development of relationships.

"The aim of this programme is to help with a variety of physical and mental health conditions by enabling engagement with the natural environment and discovering the benefits that this can bring to health and wellbeing."

The sessions will include learning to listen to birdsong, making Dormouse nest boxes, learning to identify trees, a wildflower walk, wild cooking and a natural history stroll.

You can self refer if you feel this programme would be helpful to you, especially if you are coping with anxiety and depression, if you have been recommended physical and mental activity, are experiencing loneliness. You can also be referred via your GP or practice staff, or from other organisations.

The sessions will be weekly, approximately two hours long between 11am and 1pm and will be held on a Monday and Thursday - when registering you can choose one day or the other - and group sizes will be a minimum of six and a maximum of 10. Sessions will be held outside, but if the weather is inclement, the centre has the facilities to deliver the course indoors, adhering to COVID-19 guidelines. All the sessions are free.

If you feel like this might be something that would be beneficial to you, contact Helen Hamilton, SHAW Community Builder, on: hhamilton@southhamsareawellbeing.co.uk, for a referral form.
